Landing clamps/gear - Princess Nova - 13-01-2021 We have the docking clamps, which allow shuttles (tscm or drive core) to land and dock, but I'd like to see some sort of landing clamp (on less than 100 prop ships) that would allow shuttles to dock on ships without docking clamps, but the most important thing is, I want to be able to dock shuttles/fighters that don't use a drive core or gyro pod, I enjoy making fighters using a custom written drive (allows more control and all 3 rotation axes), but they cant land on ships, if the ship moves/warps, it doesn't go with. TL;DR Some kind of landing clamp/gear that takes an input and connects to the nearest prop when an input is on, only for ships under 100 props, and not needing to have a drive core. (Boarding ships anyone?) RE: Landing clamps/gear - Sir Peter Weyland - 13-01-2021 This springs to mind... An interesting idea which I support, would only need to be a small plate of some sort to fit on the bottom of small craft. And the imaginative possibilities are amazing (boarding ships as you have said). RE: Landing clamps/gear - Blackcrow - 13-01-2021 Boarding ships, but the possibility to create Ship Docking like on this picture https://6images.cgames.de/images/gamestar/4/star-citizen-ship-to-station-docking_6112435.jpg RE: Landing clamps/gear - Avorius - 13-01-2021 (13-01-2021, 04:22 PM)Blackcrow Wrote: Boarding ships, but the possibility to create Ship Docking like on this picture Such a function as that could be replicated with starfall holos and creating blocks with starfall for the walking part. Don't ask me how, I just know that its possible. RE: Landing clamps/gear - Princess Nova - 16-07-2021 As much as I'd like this, an alternative to landing clamps is to allow anyone to parent an entity to anyone's docking clamp (even without perms) AS LONG AS the following conditions are true: - The distance between the entity and the clamp is less than a constant length (maybe 1500u?) - The entity is not connected to the clamp (not the same ship, etc) Additional things: - "Force Undock" should also deparent the entities others have parented - Having children also warp with their parent entities would be nice RE: Landing clamps/gear - mariofludd - 17-07-2021 (16-07-2021, 11:02 PM)тѕсм.Quiru Wrote: As much as I'd like this, an alternative to landing clamps is to allow anyone to parent an entity to anyone's docking clamp (even without perms) AS LONG AS the following conditions are true:This seems like it'd actually be better than a landing clamp, because then you'd be able to force undock someone so they can't stick things to your ship to troll you. Also, 1500u is a massive distance (almost 22% of a maps max size, screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/8zo2dZD.png), 50-100u would be better (the thing in the screenshot is 50u wide and tall) RE: Landing clamps/gear - The17thDoctor - 17-07-2021 (16-07-2021, 11:02 PM)тѕсм.Quiru Wrote: As much as I'd like this, an alternative to landing clamps is to allow anyone to parent an entity to anyone's docking clamp (even without perms) AS LONG AS the following conditions are true: I think both ideas are good and I would suggest having 2 separate methods, one being an update to the current docking clamps, the other being the landing gears you described in the original post. Docking Clamp Update : Instead of having a simple docking clamp, why not transform the tool into a docking area which would dock any core driven ships / normal ships in it. The area could be defined either using a hollow prop like a corridor or a full prop that would transform into the area ( like the forcefield tool's right click feature ). As a safeguard, I would suggest having a maximum size for the docking area ( something like 512 or 1024u across all axis ). Landing Gears : These landing gears would function as people would expect landing gears to work in Space Engineers and alike, they would act as an anchor to a ship / the world when an input is set to on as the original post mentioned and I would add that it could also be used for non core-driven ships ( using starfall drives for example ) as collision points when parented. This would allows for some kind of collision to still happen despite having the ship not being driven by a drive core. I could also mention that these landing gears should be restricted to your own props ; the props of someone you're in battle with ; the props of someone who granted you toolgun access, that way we avoid trolls docking to your ship illegally and annoying you all the time by docking onto your ship. Other miscellaneous ideas : ( These ideas are really not pertinent and are just fun features these systems could get as a bonus )
RE: Landing clamps/gear - Princess Nova - 17-07-2021 These are great ideas! The docking area would also be useful for hangars with bottom openings that you don't want to have extra space with a clamp on the bottom. But I think that in addition to the toolgun perm, a "Landing Gear" permission would be a good idea, so I could grant everyone Landing Gear perms, so they wont have toolgun access, but will have landing gear access. RE: Landing clamps/gear - Blackcrow - 19-08-2021 Hi, anything new here ? RE: Landing clamps/gear - Person8880 - 20-08-2021 I've added a landing gear entity which works by essentially providing a wire input toggle to dock/undock from a docking clamp the gear is above. The docking works the same way as for drive core ships, i.e. ships have to be a reasonable size compared to the clamp and land on top of it. |
